THE FIRST WEEK HAS BEEN PLAYED. Here's the review.
CHURCHTOWN-13 EAST EARL-1
The game was actually must closer than the score indicates. Stephen Foor was completely mowing down the A's lineup. Krock struck out a laughable 5 times, twice on a slider pitch that Stephen Foor didn't even know he was throwing. Score was 2-1 until the top of the 4th inning, when Foor lost control of the game, and was replaced. This proved to be a bad move as Esbenshade and Vreeland got absolutely BLOWN UP. I mean good lord, it was so bad, you'd think, "hey it couldn't get any worse than this" (You will see later on in this post that it sure as hell actually CAN get worse).
The big thing to take away is that John Kauffman is a DUDE. Guy had 4 walks, a hit by pitch, and went 4 for 7 with a monstrous double that looked like it would have been gone had it not been windy. Christian Smucker was just as good (5/8, 2 HBP, BB, 6 RBI) and showed us he can run for infield singles and come in for some relief pitching. Dr. Alan J. Krock IV did his job on the mound and kept his guys in the game like a true professional would. This team looked surprisingly good in that inning and was able to close the door on their divisional rival. Let's see if the A's can keep this going as they look for Culbert and Wenrich to start showing up.
On the Indians side.. They sucked. BUT, they showed a lot of promise. Nate Vreeland was making hard contact at the plate, while Esbenshade had 2 hits (.500 BA). Stephen walked twice. If this team can figure out the Lambert situation and get a starting pitcher, they will be right at the top with everyone else. The season is young guys...
Orioles-1 Twins-5
The big thing you need to know is that Jude Kauffman is from another planet. He mowed down the Orioles offense like it was nothing. He went 5 innings allowing just one earned run and dialing in 9 strikeouts to just 2 walks. Josiah Smucker also had an impressive day, going 3 for 3 with 4 walks and 2 runs batted in. This was a well played game by Conestoga as they gave a big statement to the league. These Twins are groovy.
Orioles-15 Twins-0
Remember the A's and Indians game? That was bad, but this is even worse yet. This game was so bad, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. So it turns out, the Twins have no pitching after Jude Kauffman. This is going to make doubleheaders interesting this year. To sum it up, 3 different pitchers came in and either gave up a walk, HBP, or a hit. They were so bad that they forfeited before even getting the 3rd out. Normally I would go in depth but this was just bad. This game showed that even though the O's do not have power in the lineup, they can still get on base.
